QUESTIONS USUALLY ASKED ABOUT
What does Live edge mean?
- Live edge or living edge means that one or more of the edges is left with a natural contour. In other words, not squared up to 90 degrees.
What is a “glue up” board?
A glue up means there are more then 2 pieces of wood glued together (usually in lengthwise dimension) to make your board. It can be the same wood, or woods that add a variety of color and texture.
What is the difference between face grain, edge grain and end grain boards?
These are three different ways to glue up boards.
- Face grain. Basically boards laid flat as if you would place the “width” flat on the counter. Your gluing face is the edge.
- Edge grain. You rotate the 90 degrees and glue the faces together so the edge is the cutting surface
- End grain. The end grain is turning a piece of wood, so the most porous part; the end, is your cutting edge.
What grain pattern is best to use?
There are several schools of thoughts on this. All have pros and cons and different beauties. Some say the end grain is the best for keeping knives sharp.
What is the difference between rounded over and chamfered edges?
Rounded over is just as it sounds. We use a 1/8” or ¼” rounding over and a chamfer is a 45 degree cut running across the edge.

What stains do you use on your Farmhouse furniture?
For standard farmhouse, we paint the bases in a white satin finish paint and stain the tops in a natural finish, light brown or cocoa brown stain from General Finishes, and then a clear polyurethane in satin. Our hardwood furniture is stained with much the same, but a more durable 5 coat finishing is applied.
Can I choose a different color?
